Alessio Lisci: “It’s Much More Than Three Points; the Team Deserved It and Needed It”

The Rojillo boss addressed the media following his team's 2-0 victory over Levante

Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci spoke to the media after his team’s win over Levante, saying the result meant far more than just the points. “It’s much more than three points. The team deserved it and needed it,” he said. “It’s a step forward, and if we’re able to maintain this intensity and the desire to win the game no matter what, it becomes a very important starting point because from there we can keep adding more things.”

Lisci said his priorities are clear. “In my life, what matters is Osasuna, the squad on the same level, and then myself. Those are my priorities,” he said. “The important thing was that we won and pulled ourselves away from that area. I hope we don’t get close to it again. We have to keep going. If the players get the reward they deserve for their daily work, and that ends up benefiting me too, great — but it’s not the priority.”

Assessing the team’s performance, Lisci said the effort was evident in the duels. “You could see it in the challenges, except for a moment after the goal when we lost some second balls, but the team kept pushing and trying,” he said. “We were smarter on fouls. In midfield it had been hurting us. In the first and last thirds we do well, but the second third has been tough for us, and today we were more intelligent. Opponents never let us run.”

He added that what he liked most was the team’s attitude. “It was a game you win with attitude — not to use a more vulgar word. When you’re down there, that’s how you get out of it. From there, you start adding more things to keep improving. Controlling transitions helped us a lot more,” he said.
