Alessio Lisci: “It’s the Most Important Match of the Year as of Today”

Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci spoke to the media in a press conference ahead of Monday’s match against Levante (Dec. 8, 9 p.m., at El Sadar). “It’s an extremely important match — I think the most important of the year as of today. We’re approaching it as always, with a lot of desire and excitement, and we can’t wait for kickoff,” he said.

The coach stressed that both he and the team “feel we owe something to the fans, and we want to give them a reason to smile again and enjoy what Osasuna is at El Sadar.” He added: “That depends on us and no one else. We know they’re going to cheer, support and help us because they’re incredible. There are no more words to define Osasuna’s fans — they’re incredible. So once again I ask for their usual support. And if things go wrong, keep supporting us, and at the 90th minute, when the referee blows the final whistle, they can do whatever they want within respect and evaluate what happened — but during the 90 minutes, we need their support as always. We’re in debt to them and we want to repay that.”

Lisci said “tomorrow is a match we’ll try to win in any way we can, knowing how difficult it will be.” He continued: “Matches are tough — this is the first division. We want to win, and we want to win well, but everyone needs to understand there will be moments when we have to suffer because Levante has the tools to hurt anyone and has two very distinctive players in Etta Eyong and Carlos Álvarez.”

Regarding how he sees his team, the Italian noted: “We reacted against Mallorca, we reacted against Ebro. From the first day, we set the objective of showing the team that it was capable of coming back, and now we’re doing it consistently, which is important.” He added: “This shows the team is alive and wants to get out of this situation. It backs the group, and we’re delighted with the reaction. We’re on a small run — a draw in Mallorca and a win in the Copa. Now we need to keep it going and extend it with a win tomorrow, which is what we have to do.”
