Osasuna routs Alaves 3-0 at El Sadar to close out 2025
The Italian coached addressed the media ahead of tomorrow's clash against Atlético de Madrid
Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci addressed the media ahead of tomorrow's match against Atlético de Madrid, set for 9 p.m. CET (8 p.m. BST/3 p.m. ET). The Italian coach emphasized the importance of the upcoming game as a crucial opportunity to secure points away from El Sadar.
"I wouldn't say earning road points is a must, but it's clearly essential that we start doing so," Lisci said. "It becomes crucial when the situation starts getting tough. The game is important, and we need to focus on winning points on the road. At home, we earn points that compensate for our lack of road points, but we need to strike a balance. We're excited for tomorrow."
Discussing Atlético de Madrid, the 39-year-old coach highlighted their ability to make effective positional switches.
"When it comes to any team with many international players, their starting lineup can be unpredictable, which can put you at a disadvantage," Lisci said. "They have a fluid style of play that I appreciate; their movements and positional switches are impressive and well-balanced, which is challenging to achieve. While they haven't earned any points on the road, they have certainly deserved more. They are playing well, and their game plan is modern—how I like teams to play at this stage of my life. I enjoy their fluidity, how they can change positions, make deep runs with complementary movements, and provide support. When they don't have the ball, as with every team coached by Diego Simeone, they are fierce, making it difficult for us to establish our own game. They are undoubtedly a strong team, which is normal, and I'm excited to see how we do."
Alessio Lisci: "The team has had an incredible week, perhaps the best one yet"
When asked about the team's performance during the international break, the Rome native praised his players for their intense training.
"The team is doing well, excited. We were able to be more relaxed, though we did have some players missing due to international call-ups," Lisci mentioned. "We were able to tune some things out, and we are pleased. The team has had an incredible week, perhaps the best one yet. We've had good weeks in the past, but this week has been amazing. It seems that we are on the right track."
