Osasuna routs Alaves 3-0 at El Sadar to close out 2025
The Italian coach addressed the media following today's 2-2 draw
Osasuna head coach Alessio Lisci spoke to the media after his team's 2-2 draw against Mallorca. The manager highlighted the team's reaction in a match that turned against them after a non-existent penalty that was not reviewed by VAR.
"For me, it's not a penalty. It's true there's a slight push, but if that's a penalty, then we'd have to call 10 or 15 a game," he said. "VAR decided not to intervene, and this year we haven't had much luck with refereeing decisions, especially with penalties. But that's how it is. We have to accept it, not complain, keep working and fix the match — which is what we did today. And the boys deserve to be congratulated."
Lisci said the team "felt comfortable" in the first half. "We suffered little to nothing. It was a match between two teams that needed points, and not much happened," he said.
"In the second half, I think we also started well, and the momentum can shift on a small detail. It happened with that throw-in that led to the penalty. After that, we had two chances, but we can't concede two goals so quickly — that's a problem because you can't always come back from two goals down."
"Then we recovered, the substitutions helped us a lot. And of course, when you're losing 2-0 late in the game, you can't really say you deserved to draw. But if you analyze the full 90 minutes, I think a draw is the fairest result," he added.
