Osasuna routs Alaves 3-0 at El Sadar to close out 2025
Los Rojillos punch ticket to Sweet 16 after defeating Oscenses in extra time.
Osasuna defeated LaLiga Hypermotion side Huesca 4-2 on the road Wednesday night at El Alcoraz to advance to the round of 16 in the Copa del Rey. Both sides scored once in regulation before the Navarrese club secured victory in extra time with goals from forwards Raúl García—who scored Osasuna’s first goal late in the first half to tie the match—midfielder Asier Osambela and forward Ante Budimir.
Raúl scored his sixth and seventh goals in this year’s Copa del Rey, recording multiple goals in all three matches—with one hat trick and two braces—while Osambela netted his first professional goal for his boyhood club.
The opening stages were evenly balanced, with few clear chances for either side. Neither Huesca nor Osasuna threatened until 10 minutes from halftime, when midfielder Dani Luna put the hosts ahead with a curling free kick from a wide position. Osasuna responded quickly, and Raúl equalized in first-half stoppage time after meeting a cross from forward Sheraldo Becker with a finish inside the area.
After the break, Osasuna increased the intensity and appeared to take the lead through Becker, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. The Suriname international was clearly onside when he beat the goalkeeper and slotted the ball home, but the assistant referee raised the flag and the goal was disallowed. The Navarrese side continued to push, creating chances through forwards Roberto Arroyo, Raúl and Víctor Muñoz, but the match remained level at 1-1 and went to extra time.
Five minutes into extra time, Raúl headed Los Rojillos in front after connecting with a cross from Muñoz to make it 2-1. Huesca refused to back down and continued to threaten, and just before the break in extra time, midfielder Iker Kortajarena leveled for the hosts with a goal in the 105th minute.
The visitors regained control at the start of the second period of extra time, pinning Huesca in their own half. With nine minutes left, Osambela restored the lead with a goal from a corner kick. Los Rojillos took full control, and Budimir sealed the win with another goal from a corner in the 118th minute.
Osasuna will await its next opponent, with the round of 16 draw set for Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. CET. Before the draw, Los Rojillos will close the year against Deportivo Alavés on Saturday, Dec. 21, at El Sadar in Week 17 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CET (5:30 p.m. GMT/12:30 p.m. ET).
Tiempo de juego: 121min.
